My kids are super tough to please when it comes to food, and especially anything that has to do with meat. Thank God for burgers! They’re always my go-to at least twice a week. Beef, chicken, turkey, even fish. If it looks like a burger, they will eat it no questions asked. And because they’re so difficult when it comes to eating anything other than pasta, when making a burger I try to literally put anything but the kitchen sink in the mince!

My version of the healthy greek turkey burger includes, in addition to the ground turkey, fresh tomato, parsley, bread crumbs, egg, onion, garlic, crumbled feta, and dried oregano. The result is a burger that is so rich and flavorful you can forego the burger bun and eat it as is, and we usually do because my kids attack them as soon as they’re off the grill!

With 3 little ones I like easy no-fuss recipes. And I make all our food from scratch, so fast, easy and healthy are usually  a tough combination to come by! That’s why I love this recipe so much! Just throw in All the ingredients and mix them up in a bowl.

Form patties about the size of your palm and place them on a preheated, non stick grill. I brush the grill surface with some oil because poultry tends to be sticky to begin with.

c2You will need to flip them once, allowing them to cook about 5 minutes on each side. That’s 10 minutes total, give or take a couple depending on how thick your burgers are.

Healthy Greek Turkey Burgers
Yield: 8 burgers

Ingredients
600g/1.3lbs ground turkey
1 red onion, diced
½ tsp minced garlic
1 tsp dried oregano
⅓ cup bread crumbs
¼ cup crumbled feta
¼ cup fresh parsley (or spinach)
1 large egg
1 tomato, diced
salt and  pepper to taste
2 tbs olive oil

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients, except the olive oil, in a large bowl and mix well. Make a small “well” in the center of your mix and add 1 tbs olive oil. Mix it up once more.
  2. Preheat your grill and brush it with the remaining 1 tbs of olive oil. Form 8 burgers about the size of your palm and place them on the grill. I did this in 2 batches.
  3. Grill your burgers about 5 minutes on each side, 10 minutes in total.
  4. Remove from grill and serve immediately with a slice of lemon or a yogurt dip.
